International Education – Financial Overview

International Education – Financial Overview

“ABROAD EDUCATION” is not a privilege reserved only for those with higher economic backgrounds or better academic grades- it is an open door for anyone and everyone looking to explore their ‘uddeshya.’ International education is a path to exploring opportunities for your future to look considerably different than continuing with the mainstream decisions. When you come to a different country to live- you meet
diverse people from all over the world, studying, working, visiting, experiencing in this new system & probably sharing similar challenges as you- it creates a sense of belongingness eventually.

To give you a rough idea of the expense and reward system when we are considering common countries that most kids opt for, like Canada, Australia, USA- the budget should be more or less the same. USA being on the more expensive side and Canada being on the cheaper side.
It’s very important to select the country for further studies with enough information from other available options too.

For example, I am currently working in Canada. I came here as a student in 2019 & you can now read
the breakdown of all the money I invested before reaching here (CAD is Canadian Dollars, USD is
United States Dollars/ American Dollars, INR is Indian National Rupee & all conversions of currency are enlisted as of August 2019).
● GIC- CAD 10k, ~ INR 5.5L
● fees- CAD 16k ~ INR 8.5L
● visa- INR 1.5k,
● medical clearance- INR 5k,
● legal clearance- INR 1k,
● passport- INR 2k,
● various legal forms – INR 0.5k,
● flight ticket one way- INR 65k,
● in hand cash- USD 300 ~ INR 23k
● So, approximately INR 15.5L

That being said, guess what was my total annual income by the end of the year 2019? It was approximately CAD 10k, which was close to INR 5.5L- This figure is solely based on my part-time income (20 hours of work per week, on minimum wage i.e. around $14 an hour. So, we can say that I earned around INR 740 per hour, and worked for more or less 15 to 18 hours a week. I would also request you to note that this was the total of my income despite several months of joblessness.

You see that this is just an overall idea to let you know that it all gets managed even in the worse case scenarios.

Do you know how many students travel to other countries for further education/ work or immigrate every year from India? There was a 58% increased rate of students departing India for international education when surveyed by the Bureau of Immigration from 2020 to 2021. As of 2022, i.e., the current number of students who have already moved to other countries is 1,33,135 (one lakh thirty-three thousand, one hundred and thirty-five).

The point is, studying abroad isn’t everyone’s cup of tea – but if you can think it, you can make it!
